VITAMINS

I often get asked about what vitamins I take and why. Here’s the reasons I PERSONALLY take THESE vitamins but I am not endorsing them and saying they will be relevant to your body or even that their benefits are 100% confirmed! Additionally, I won’t go into great detail about any of them because I know y’all know how to Google search :)

-Alive! Daily Multivitamin: Alive! makes the best multivitamins for a brand that is sold at drugstores and not just Whole Foods. Their ingredients are wholesome and the “Energy” one doesn’t have actual caffeine in it like the ones that One A Day Women do.. I can’t explain my horror when I read the ingredients on those vitamins after feeling kind of weird and shaky when I was taking them.

-Flaxseed Oil: I switch between this and Fish Oil, just to mix it up when I finish a bottle of one of them. These provide you with omega-3 fatty acids, which is essential for heart health, among many other benefits.

-Calcium: I don’t intake much calcium through my diet. People of Asian descent are prone to osteoporosis. I am of Asian descent. Solution: I take calcium supplements.

-Zinc: Zinc is advised for people who don’t eat much animal product, such as myself.

-Vitamin C: Everyone needs this and nobody is getting enough of it. This website is succinct & helpful on the topic: http://www.cforyourself.com/Overview/Primer/What_C_Does/why_take_c.html

-Vitamin B: Recommended to take with Zinc in order to help facilitate absorption, and also essential for healthy cells. Like zinc, this comes mainly from animal products, which I don’t intake much of - I love cheese, although lately I’ve been buying vegan cheese because it’s easier to digest, and I only drink soy or almond milk. I do, however, sometimes enjoy ice cream and ice cream-like things as well as milkshakes :)

MOST IMPORTANTLY, take your vitamins with a meal that has fat in it, because many vitamins absorb better with fat. Also, try not to take them all at once; I take my multi, flaxseed, and calcium with breakfast, and the other three later in the day. If your pee is really yellow it’s likely that you aren’t absorbing all the vitamins. And remember, vitamins are only a supplement - it’s not like you can eat meals composed mainly of starches and saturated fats and think that you’re in perfect health because you take a lot of vitamins. Vitamins can only do so much; you must eat as many fruits and vegetables - DARK LEAFY GREENS - as you can!

ALSO - you guys know about Coconut Oil, the miracle product, right? I cook with it. I put it on my skin. I put it on my hair. I put it in my oatmeal. I consume it alone. Results are as follows: my food tastes great, my skin and hair look and feel great through a natural and non-chemical substance, my oatmeal tastes weird but that’s a great way to ingest it, and I only take spoonfuls when I’m ready for a lot of coconut oil in my mouth (which isn’t really that often).. Make sure to buy organic cold-pressed coconut oil; you can get a big tub of it for <$10 so find the good shit.
